Deliver Me, O Lord
A Song of Ascents.
In my distress, I called to the Lord, and he answered me. Deliver me, O Lord, from lying lips, from a deceitful tongue. What shall be given to you, and what more shall be done to you, you deceitful tongue?
A warrior's sharp arrows, with glowing coals of the broom tree! Woe to me, that I sojourn in Meshech, that I dwell among the tents of Kedar! Too long have I had my dwelling among those who hate peace. I am for peace, but when I speak, they are for war!
“In my distress, I called to the Lord,” Are we that much different than the Psalmist? Have you noticed we do not refer to lying, it is spin, lying is such as harsh word, in fact, if we did a fact check on the news media after the mid-term election you would wonder who ever said there was a red wave? I listened to Fox and not one person I heard said, I was wrong, I blew it. We live among people who lie and have a deceitful tongue.
It seems as if the broom tree was a desert tree, used to give shade and its roots were a good source of firewood. It implies that the warrior would use it in that manner.
It seems the Psalmist is using the term Meshech not in a literal term in that Israel never sojourned in Meshech. He refers to dwelling among hostile and barbarous people, much like the Kedar and Meshech.
As followers of Jesus, we must be careful not to allow the culture to take away the peace we have in Christ Jesus.
