Psalm 72:12-20
July 11, 2022
For he delivers the needy when he calls, the poor and him who has no helper. He has pity on the weak and the needy and saves the lives of the needy. From oppression and violence, he redeems their life, and precious is their blood in his sight. Long may he live; may gold of Sheba be given to him! May prayer be made for him continually, and blessings invoked for him all day! May there be an abundance of grain in the land; on the tops of the mountains may it wave; may its fruit be like Lebanon; and may people blossom in the cities like the grass of the field!
May his name endure forever, and his fame continue as long as the sun!
May people be blessed in him, all nations call him blessed! Blessed be the Lord, the God of Israel, who alone does wondrous things. Blessed be his glorious name forever; may the whole earth be filled with his glory!
Amen and Amen!
The prayers of David, the son of Jesse, are ended.
A king and a dad, maybe the last prayer for his son who the king has had anointed to be King of Israel. David has not left his son in a bad way, for David, the warrior King has left his son with peace on all sides, only in his family is there trouble.
David's prayer is that Solomon will have a heart of wisdom, listen to God, and do all that God leads him to do. Should that not be how any dad should be praying for his son. Specialty if he is to be the ruler over a family. The poor and needy are easy to ignore and so they are also easy to look at but only do for them what is best for you. In my lifetime I saw many in government buy their vote by lies and promises that never happened. These rulers give them crumbs but steal from them the dignity of earning a living, being a dad, and taking the responsibility of being the provider.
David also prayed his son would find favor from the nation around him, and they would provide good things for Solomon. David asked the Lord to bless the land and the people so that they would not have need of anything. He asks the Lord to give the people a heart to honor not only the Lord but to pray for his son. This would be an excellent way to end your prayers;
Blessed be the Lord, the God of Israel, who alone does wondrous things. Blessed be his glorious name forever; may the whole earth be filled with his glory!
Amen and Amen!
