In the Day of Trouble, I Seek the Lord
To the choirmaster: according to Jeduthun. A Psalm of Asaph.
I cry aloud to God, aloud to God, and he will hear me. In the day of my trouble, I seek the Lord; in the night my hand is stretched out without wearying; my soul refuses to be comforted. When I remember God, I moan; when I meditate, my spirit faints. Selah
You hold my eyelids open; I am so troubled that I cannot speak. I consider the days of old, the years long ago. I said,[ “Let me remember my song in the night; let me meditate in my heart.” Then my spirit made a diligent search: “Will the Lord spurn forever, and never again be favorable? Has his steadfast love forever ceased? Are his promises at an end for all time? Has God forgotten to be gracious? Has he in anger shut up his compassion?” Selah
If you have gone through a tough time, like the parents who lost a child to a demon-possessed young man in Uvalde, Texas, you may have come to understand these first nine verses, or if you lost your health, or gone through a divorce.
You may be asking will the Lord refuse forever and never again be favorable? You may be asking has His steadfast love forever ceased? Or you may be asking “Has God forgotten to be gracious? May I give you a short answer, no? His love for you was demonstrated in the giving of His only Son, to die for your sins and mine. Our problem often is we've been so far away from Him we want to be fixed, but do not listen to what He tells us.
If that is where you are, be still and know that He is God and that He loves you, and what to bless you, so be still and wait on the Lord.
“Likewise the Spirit also helps in our weakness. For we do not know what we should pray for as we ought, but the Spirit Himself makes intercession for us with groanings which cannot be uttered.” Romans 8:26
