God Will Judge with Equity
To the choirmaster: according to Do Not Destroy. A Psalm of Asaph. A Song.
We give thanks to you, O God; we give thanks, for your name is near. We recount your wondrous deeds. “At the set time that I appoint, I will judge with equity. When the earth totters, and all its inhabitants, it is I who keep steady its pillars. Selah
I say to the boastful, ‘Do not boast,’ and to the wicked, ‘Do not lift up your horn; do not lift up your horn on high, or speak with haughty neck.’” For not from the east or from the west and not from the wilderness comes lifting up, but it is God who executes judgment, putting down one and lifting up another. For in the hand of the Lord, there is a cup with foaming wine, well mixed, and he pours out from it, and all the wicked of the earth shall drain it down to the dregs. But I will declare it forever; I will sing praises to the God of Jacob. All the horns of the wicked I will cut off, but the horns of the righteous shall be lifted up.
I was not all that old, early twenties when I was picked for a jury trial, the defense lawyer was giving us an overview of something that might have happened. He said the police were called out on a domestic case of physical abuse and when arresting the man, they noticed bags of cocaine. The man was arrested for being in possession of cocaine and physical abuse. In that, the police did not have a warrant and were invited into the house by the wife you as a member of the jury must remove the cocaine charge from your mind if the Judge tells you to do so. How many cannot do so? I was the only one that lifted my hand. The judge, an older man, called me to come down and stand in front of him and told me he had the authority to hold me in contempt and told me I must do as he says. I replied, your honor, if they testified that they saw it then, I will not forget that, no matter what I am told, it will affect my judgment. He said Mr. Rice was removed from the jury, and told me to leave his courtroom. It seems then and now that the judge was not asking us to judge with equity.
But Asaph had an understanding of God that He would always judge with equity. Asaph knew that a time was already set when the all-knowing God would judge with equity. Unlike many who have the title of judge, our God will be impartial, He will be fair, and justice will be given to all no matter what.

Bob Rice
