Psalm 55: 20-23
June 5, 2022
My companion attacks his friends; he violates his covenant. His talk is smooth as butter, yet war is in his heart; his words are more soothing than oil, yet they are drawn swords. Cast your cares on the Lord and he will sustain you; he will never let the righteous be shaken. But you, God, will bring down the wicked into the pit of decay; the bloodthirsty and deceitful will not live out half their days. But as for me, I trust in you.
We often are disappointed in a relationship, believing that the person is trustworthy and a friend, to find they have not honored our trust. This life is full of disappointment, did Jesus not tell us that in this world we would have tribulations? In John 16:33, “ I have said these things to you, that in me you may have peace. In the world, you will have tribulation. But take heart; I have overcome the world.”
What is wrong with us, why do we not cast our cares on the Lord? Is it a trust issue, or is it being ignorant of the promise of Jesus found in the Scriptures? What about me, why do I run to doctors and people before turning to the one who has the power and authority to fix me? If in my case it is not unbelief, nor ignorance of the Scriptures, could it be I’ve been taken prisoner by the culture I live in? So it is a choice, we can do as David, and make a statement of faith, “But as for me, I trust in you.”
When that becomes more than words and is lived out in our daily life, we have no doubt he will sustain us, and as spoken by David, He will never allow the righteous, (your righteousness is found in Christ) to be shaken.
The culture is like the friend that breaks your trust, it cannot be counted on, its foundation is built on lies, and it's leaders or men who trust in themselves and not God.
