Come to Our Help
To the choirmaster. A Maskil of the Sons of Korah.
O God, we have heard with our ears, our fathers have told us, what deeds you performed in their days, in the days of old: you with your own hand drove out the nations, but them you planted; you afflicted the peoples, but them you set free; for not by their own sword did they win the land, nor did their own arm save them, but your right hand and your arm, and the light of your face, for you delighted in them. You are my King, O God; ordain salvation for Jacob! Through you we push down our foes; through your name we tread down those who rise up against us. For not in my bow do I trust, nor can my sword save me. But you have saved us from our foes and have put to shame those who hate us. In God we have boasted continually, and we will give thanks to your name forever. Selah
In “The Ragamuffin Gospel” by Brennan Manning, he tells the story of an old man praying on a bridge out in the country side. A priest is on his way to visit with some of his parish members and come up on the old guy praying and stop unnoticed to listen. After a few minutes he walk up to the gentleman an make this statement, you and God must be very close. The old man look up to see you has address him and, replies yes, He is very fond of me.
That story told by Brennan, has had a big impact on my relationship with my Father in heaven. I for years knew the Scriptures taught us God so loved the World that He gave His only Son. But that a long way from Him being fond of a Rascal like me. But the old man was not saying he was living a perfect life, but had come to understand that God’s love for all who place faith in God’s Son by God’s grace and the faith He give to anyone that ask, is a very special relationship.
For so many years in sales I took ownership of my success, but one day it hit me, I need to give thanks to my Father in Heaven for giving me the skill set and the ability to be good at my job. Then as I have learn more I praise Him for giving me the wife and daughter, and the ability to be blessed by them and to bless them. I have a great Son-in-law who loves God and my daughter, and that was an answer to many prayers over the years. I also have been blessed by God with two amazing grandsons. Yes, God must be fond of both Jan and me to have trusted us with so many young couples, and a few older and great neighbors.
My question to all who are followers of Christ do you understand that your Father in heaven is very fond of you?
From the Back Porch,
Bob Rice
