Can God’s Word be Trusted?

Can God’s Word be Trusted?

Many years ago, we put this Scripture on our house, so all could read it.  It is the last part of Joshua 24:15, “But as for me and my house, we will serve the Lord.”

Is it foolish to put your trust in what God has told us in the Bible, and if so who can you trust?  This paper is addressing those who are called Christian, who claim they believe in Jesus Christ, that He was the only Son of God, and came to earth as a baby being placed in Mary’s womb by God’s Holy Spirit, who had never known a man, and was a virgin.  They also will tell you that Jesus died on a cross for the sin of the world, for their sin and that is because of their faith in him they will go to heaven.  They also claim Jesus not only conquered sin, but also death and the grave, and is sitting at the right hand of His Father.

I must confess, I also believe that to be true, at the age of 27, in a hotel room in Victoria, Texas, I read, the following, “If you declare with your mouth, “Jesus is Lord,” and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved.   For it is with your heart that you believe and are justified, and it is with your mouth that you profess your faith and are saved.” (Romans 10:9-10)  Over many years of being a follower of Christ, I’ve come to understand, it was not my faith, but faith God gave me to trust Him, and by His grace, I've acted on that faith and I entered into God and He entered into me, and He is my life, the old Bob died that day.  For 27 years I had learned how to get my needs met outside of Christ, those sin habits and the world's desire to mold me into its plan have taken many years to reshape my mind to not trust in man but in God.

So, if that is true, then how can you who go by the title of Christian ignore the rest of God’s word?

Proverbs 19:23

“The fear of the Lord leads to life, and whoever has it rests satisfied; he will not be visited by harm.”  We also are told that the fear of the Lord is the beginning of wisdom.   Fear is not a new thing to me; I was taught it like one teaches a bird dog at an early age.  The Scriptures are clear that fear is not bad if centered on the Fear of the Lord.  Fear of anything else is not of God and comes from the enemy of our soul, the one Jesus called the thief in John 10:10, “The thief comes only to steal and kill and destroy; I have come that they may have life, and have it to the full.”

Why is this subject so dear to me, why am I asking you to ponder on Truth?  It began when I saw a man-made virus, President Trump called it correctly the  China Virus, that was where it was designed.  It brought fear all over the world and I witnessed it, not many voices called the Christian community to call its members to pray, seeking God but instead, I saw them look to science, to government, but not to God.  In no way am I stating that some did look to God, but many did not.

As I prayed and looked to the Scriptures, I kept getting the same message, fear not for I am with you.  Isaiah 41:10 states the following: “Fear thou not; for I am with thee: be not dismayed; for I am thy God: I will strengthen thee; yea, I will help thee; yea, I will uphold thee with the right hand of my righteousness.”  It was Proverbs 19:23, where I believe the Spirit of God who lives in me ask me these questions; will you trust Me to be your vaccine, will you trust Me over doctors, over science, and over being thought a fool?

It became clear that as my dear friend, John Davis often says to me when it comes to Scripture, you cannot teach it round and square, it is either all true or it is not.  Now that is what you need to give a lot of thought to, the Jesus you are trusting for eternal life claimed in John 14:6, “I am the way and the truth and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me.”

Can all that the Bible talks about Jesus be true, my answer is 100%, then why are you running to any other source, but God?  Has he not told us He cares for us, has he not told us that His Father and ours knows when a sparrow dies, and we are much more valuable than sparrows.  And lastly does not Jesus call us friend, not the Facebook kind of friend, but the real deal that is there 24-7.  He loves you, and so do I, or I would not be writing this paper, that I know many will not understand

A Truth-seeker,

Bob Rice
