Your Name, O Lord, Endures Forever
Praise the Lord! Praise the name of the Lord, give praise, O servants of the Lord, who stand in the house of the Lord, in the courts of the house of our God! Praise the Lord, for the Lord is good; sing to his name, for it is pleasant! For the Lord has chosen Jacob for himself, Israel as his own possession. For I know that the Lord is great and that our Lord is above all gods. Whatever the Lord pleases, he does, in heaven and on earth, in the seas and all depths. He it is who makes the clouds rise at the end of the earth, who makes lightning for the rain and brings forth the wind from his storehouses. He it was who struck down the firstborn of Egypt, both of man and of beast; who in your midst, O Egypt, sent signs and wonders against Pharaoh and all his servants; who struck down many nations and killed mighty kings, Sihon, king of the Amorites, and Og, king of Bashan, and all the kingdoms of Canaan, and gave their land as a heritage, a heritage to his people Israel.
Your name, O Lord, endures forever, your renown, O Lord, throughout all ages. For the Lord will vindicate his people and have compassion on his servants.
We the Church must have a full understanding of the Master/servant relationship, for without that we are not able to abide in Christ. As a servant to my Master, I can live true godliness with contentment. You find this key verse in 1 Timothy 6:6-8, “But godliness with contentment is great gain, for we brought nothing into the world, and we cannot take anything out of the world. But if we have food and clothing, with these we will be content.” It is not simple, it requires a funeral to the fleshly desires, and the understanding that our Master has great love for us, and sees us as His kids.
As we understand our role or place in the line in this great army of our Lord, this verse in Psalm 135 becomes our cry. For I know that the Lord is great and that our Lord is above all gods. Yes, all the little gods that are worshipped by the world, become foolish to us, for we understand that all good and perfect gifts come from our Father, and we find great contentment in Him and His word.
As we abide in our Master's love as faithful servants this verse also becomes our heart's desire. Your name, O Lord, endures forever, your renown, O Lord, throughout all ages. For the Lord will vindicate his people and have compassion on his servants. Maybe you have just begun the choice of following Jesus, and being a servant is a new concept to you, as you explore the Scriptures, you will find it is not new, everyone from Abraham to Peter understood that to walk in right standing with God, required us to be fully under the authority of our Master.
