Titus 2:1-2
Teach Sound Doctrine
But as for you, teach what accords with sound doctrine. Older men are to be sober-minded, dignified, self-controlled, sound in faith, in love, and in steadfastness
When we are taught sound doctrine, our lives project a way consistent with sound teaching, in ways that would affirm rather than deny their claim to know God.
At this stage in life, I have arrived as the older man, I did not say wiser for I have much to learn. The Corona Virus has been a good teacher for the Church, it has exposed men and women who walk by feel and not by faith. It has made me ask myself this question, can I be the hands and feet of Jesus locked up in my home? Can I be the hands and feet of Jesus fearful to touch a person?
What does “Sober-minded” mean: “The term sober-minded literally means “free from intoxicating influences.” “More broadly, being sober-minded means that we do not allow ourselves to be captivated by any type of influence that would lead us away from sound judgment. The sober-minded individual is not “intoxicated,” figuratively speaking, and is therefore calm under pressure, self-controlled in all areas, and rational.” (From Got Questions)
And when under sound teaching and applying it to our daily walk with the Lord, praying for guidance, and spending time in the Scriptures, we come to this understanding the Christian life is an impossible life to live, only one person has done so. We must ask Jesus to be our life, that sounds easy, but it is not, for He must increase, and we must decrease. When that happens; Jesus will teach you how to let His dignified, self-controlled, sound in faith, in love, and in steadfastness live out in you.
