Psalm 18:43-50
“You delivered me from strife with the people; you made me the head of the nations; people whom I had not known served me. As soon as they heard of me, they obeyed me; foreigners came cringing to me. Foreigners lost heart and came trembling out of their fortresses.
The Lord lives, and blessed be my rock, and exalted be the God of my salvation—the God who gave me vengeance and subdued peoples under me, who rescued me from my enemies; yes, you exalted me above those who rose against me; you delivered me from the man of violence.
For this, I will praise you, O Lord, among the nations, and sing to your name. Great salvation he brings to his king, and shows steadfast love to his anointed, to David and his offspring forever.”
Living in a “me first” culture, it is easy to be molded into a person who is not grateful, or thankful for the many blessings we experience each day. How easy it would have been for David to be like us, look at what I’ve done, look at the home I have, and all the good stuff I have acquired.
But that was not the heart of King David, nor should it be yours are mine, but often it is, why? Because we have fallen victim to, I want, and I deserve in the culture we live in, stuff matters more than a relationship. We worship self, it is a little god that has no desire for anything but more, and the more could be just about anything, it’s whatever moves our bubble.
So how does one break the mold and escape to a life of joy and thankfulness for the many blessings of our loving Father? For me, it was coming to an understanding that it is God who is my source, He loves a rascal like me, and in spite of my poor performance He showers me each day with many blessings.
He is a Father who sent His only Son to take away my sins, that’s love, a love I do not fully understand, for Jesus was willing to do this for you and me. So it is essential for one to believe in their heart and proclaim as David did this truth; “The Lord lives and blessed be my rock, and exalted be the God of my salvation.” And like David, I can state, O Lord, great is your salvation and your love for me.
