Genesis 1:24-31
This morning as I began to read about the six days of Creation I was overwhelmed with all that happened on that day. “And God said, “Let the earth bring forth living creatures according to their kinds – livestock and creeping things and beasts of the earth according to their kinds.” In no way was this a random act by God; God designed all of creation, according to its kind. And we see that God blessed it and called it good. But God was not through with His plan, verse 26 states, “Then God said, “Let us make man in our image, after our likeness. And let them have dominion over the fish of the sea and over the birds of the heavens and over the livestock and over all the earth and over every creeping thing that creeps on the earth.”
When God said let us, whom was He addressing? The first thought is the “Us” had to be able to create, the “Us’ had to be like God, and saying that means they were also Omnipotent, all-powerful, preeminence, supreme power, absolute power, unlimited power; invincibility. The “Us” that God is referring to would be Omnipresence, the ability to be everywhere at the same time. The “Us” would also be Omniscience, having the ability to know everything, in fact we must conclude that the “Us” being referred to is the triune God, God the Father, God the Son, and God the Holy Spirit, consisting of three beings in one.
Have you given thought to the fact that you have the image of God and were designed after His likeness! When God made the first Adam, he walked with God, he talked with God and he had fellowship with God, if you had been there, you would have said Adam was the image of God. But Adam messed up and chose to live independent of God and God calls that sin. Before the fall of man if you could have seen past Adam’s earthsuit, you would have seen a spiritual man whose spirit looks just like God’s spirit. Jesus tells us in the gospel of John 4:24, “God is spirit, and those who worship him must worship in spirit and truth.” The prophet Isaiah tells us in chapter 46: 8,9, “Remember this and stand firm, recall it to mind, you transgressors, remember the former things of old; for I am God, and there is no other; I am God and there is none like me, declaring the end from the beginning and from ancient times things not yet done, saying, ‘My counsel shall stand, and I will accomplish all my purpose.”
God’s purpose is known by His actions, He so loved (you & me) that He ask Jesus to step out of glory and take on skin, and live with us for a while, and in doing that to pay the full price for our independent spirit that would not be subject to or obey the God who is unseen. He gave us faith to believe in Him and He gave us time to apply that faith, so that by grace through faith you may enjoy walking, talking and having fellowship with God.
