The Lord Is My Light and My Salvation

Of David.

The Lord is my light and my salvation; whom shall I fear?  The Lord is the stronghold of my life; of whom shall I be afraid?   When evildoers assail me to eat up my flesh, my adversaries and foes, it is they who stumble and fall.  Though an army encamps against me, my heart shall not fear; though war arises against me, yet I will be confident.  One thing have I asked of the Lord, that will I seek after that I may dwell in the house of the Lord all the days of my life, to gaze upon the beauty of the Lord and to inquire in his temple.  For he will hide me in his shelter in the day of trouble; he will conceal me under the cover of his tent; he will lift me high upon a rock.  And now my head shall be lifted up above my enemies all around me, and I will offer in his tent sacrifices with shouts of joy; I will sing and make melody to the Lord.   Hear, O Lord, when I cry aloud; be gracious to me and answer me!   You have said, “Seek my face.”  My heart says to you, “Your face, Lord, do I seek.”   Hide not your face from me.  Turn not your servant away in anger, O you who have been my help.  Cast me not off; forsake me not, O God of my salvation!   For my father and my mother have forsaken me, but the Lord will take me in.   Teach me your way, O Lord, and lead me on a level path because of my enemies.   Give me not up to the will of my adversaries; for false witnesses have risen against me, and they breathe out violence.   I believe that I shall look upon the goodness of the Lord in the land of the living!   Wait for the Lord;  be strong, and let your heart take courage;   wait for the Lord!

The whom shall I fear, is worthy of taking a moment to reflect on the subject God is the Creator and you are His creation, He is the Master and we if we understand this truth, will have “profound reverence and awe,  toward God.”  As Master what is His role? if He is your Master what is your role, can it be anything but a servant?  Jessica Brodie did a masterful job of explaining this truth; We should recognize the fear of the Lord — this powerful nature — and also have a fear of the Lord. For in our reverence for Him, we praise and honor Him as Lord over our lives, over the world, and over all things now and forever.”

I assume you are in agreement with this opinion of Master/servant and understand the role of a servant is to serve, honor, bring glory to the Master, to seek His face.  How can one do that, David gives us the only path that works, Teach me your way, O Lord, and lead me on a level path because of my enemies.   Two things are required, one is the Word of God, and to study it on a daily basis, and apply its teaching to your life.  The problem that will show up is the tyranny of the urgent, yes the enemy of your soul will always come up with a plan that leaves little time to seek the face of God.  To study to show yourself a workman that is not afraid.   This is why David asks the Lord to lead him on a level path, because the world system, is all about the tyranny of the urgent, and fear, not of God, just fear so you don’t assemble with other believers in a pandemic so that you do not take a bold stand on what God Spirit is saying to you as you go each day.

To do so requires you to understand, God will do it all for you, as He did for David,  but first, one must believe that God is their strength and wait for Him to act.  Wait for the Lord; be strong, and let your heart take courage; wait for the Lord!
