Why Choose Wisdom?

July 1, 2018

Proverbs 9

Wisdom gives us her plan for one's life, and Wisdom has all that is needed even for the most inexperienced to learn and have life in the full.  But foolishness also has set a trap, and we know her as the woman of folly, she pretends to have the authority and yet her character is immorality.  Wisdom operates in the open, but folly always in secret.

Let us explore what Lady Wisdom has to offer; first, to the simple and the person who lacks sense, she provides food and real substance.  She is willing to guide you from simple or foolish ways in the way of insight.  First, she warns the simple not to try and correct a scoffer or ridicule wisdom.  On the other hand, she shares that if one reproves a wise man, he will show kindness and love back.

She gave an example of what happens when one instructs a wise man, he only becomes more prudent, and a righteous man will only increase in learning.  The key is given to guide the simple, and it is, “The fear of the LORD is the beginning of wisdom, and the knowledge of the Holy One is insight.”

Verse 11 is something all should want to attain; “For by me your days will be multiplied, and years will be added to your life.”

Let us examine what Proverbs 9:13-18 shares about the woman of folly.  “The woman Folly is loud; she is seductive and knows nothing.  She sits at the door of her house; she takes a seat on the highest places of the town, calling to those who pass by, who are going straight on their way, “Whoever is simple, let him turn in here!” And to him who lacks sense, she says, “Stolen water is sweet, and bread eaten in secret is pleasant.” But he does not know that the dead are there, that her guests are in the depths of Sheol.”

Why would anyone want the Woman of folly and reject life promised by Lady Wisdom?  It is a simple answer the Woman of folly is very seductive, and I hope you’re aware that sex is enticing, and when tempted and done outside of marriage it brings her guest under her powers.

And under her powers are many a young boy and girl today, and her new tool is pornography.  Let me share some information: “Teenagers, being in their formative stages, are quite unsure about their sexual identity, and to them, pornography is not much different than a trip to the candy shop. They revel in the newfound euphoric feelings while at the same time secretly connecting with other folks with whom they share similar sexual tastes.  Studies done in this area have ascertained that pornography has roared into our everyday life so overwhelming that the existing social science models of treatment can no longer contain the phenomenon. Many young people suffer from exposure to pornography because it is an addictive force that is slowly consuming their productivity and capturing their creativity.”

Pornography

“Cyber-sex addiction is predicted to be the next tsunami in mental health. Men in their late teens and early twenties have scant recollection, if any, of plastic-covered lad magazines on the top shelves of newsagents. The erotic world is seconds away with the touch of a button.
These young men are presented with what once was the older man’s affliction: erectile dysfunction. These are physically healthy young men, with no medical issues, but their use of pornography, which sometimes becomes an addiction, is having a debilitating effect on their sexual relationships.”  It may shock you to learn that this is happening to boys as young as 16 years of age.

The old devil is always trying to mask or copy in a perverse way the ways of God. The woman folly is a tool he has used for years, and now she is after a new generation of boys and girls to steal and to kill or to destroy any hope of finding Lady Wisdom and her offer of eternal life.
