A Culture of Weeds

Luke 11:24-26

Light and darkness cannot share the same space!  When you look at a person who has integrity it leaves no space for dishonesty!   When you refer to someone as moral person, it leaves no room for immoral and yet many a follower of Christ has tried to cleanup and drop old habits that have pulled them down and made a mess of their lives, without dealing with the real issue, the root of the problem.  (Note: My desire is that you become a follower of Christ, it will help you, but do not forget the twelve disciples were followers of Christ and few believed in Him till after the Holy Spirit had come on them, after the Cross, after the resurrection, they entered into a personal relationship with the Christ they had lived with and followed.)

As one who enjoys gardening, it became clear I could pull the tops of the weeds and my garden will look good for a while, but the weed problem was not dealt with it’s roots are still in the soil, and they will come back stronger.  Let’s look at Luke 11:24-26, “When the unclean spirit has gone out of a person, it passes through waterless places seeking rest, and finding none it says, ‘I will return to my house from which I came.’ And when it comes, it finds the house swept and put in order. Then it goes and brings seven other spirits more evil than itself, and they enter and dwell there. And the last state of that person is worse than the first.”  (Luke 11:24-26 ESV)

It seems to me that we are living in a culture that pulls the tops off the weeds of life, we go to the right schools we have nice cars, homes, and even attend nice churches, but the roots are very much alive.  We keep removing the tops, for it’s not good to let anyone see what the weeds look like in our lives; they are not aesthetically appealing at work and church, or even to our family, so we act as if they were not there.
Now let’s call them not weeds but demons, they have all kinds of names, alcohol addiction, prescription drug addiction, eating addiction, buying addiction, anger addiction, greed addiction, pride addiction, sports addiction, and the list keeps going and going.  We as a culture give them grades, some are graded “B” and others as low “F” yet they all have something in common, and the one with the addictions places self before all others, even God.

Jesus has never asked any of us to do a make over, or a cleanup, it matters not your demon it going to require a funeral and by faith asking Jesus to kill any desire that is taking His place.  If not, that demon is going to return and bring his friends with him.
