David's Administration
So, David reigned over all Israel, and he administered justice and equity to all his people. And Joab the son of Zeruiah was over the army, and Jehoshaphat the son of Ahilud was recorder, and Zadok the son of Ahitub, and Ahimelech the son of Abiathar were priests, and Shavsha was secretary, and Benaiah the son of Jehoiada was over the Cherethites and the Pelethites, and David's sons were the chief officials in the service of the king.
David reigned and he administered justice and equity to all his people. Now that is a leader, in the United States of America, we have said justice is blind, it treats everyone the same. If you believe that, then you are very naïve and uninformed. If we treated everyone with the same justice, many in the highest offices in Washington would be in jail. But we do not have that kind of leadership, nor is it found anywhere on planet Earth that I am aware of. David was fully aware of who made him king, and it was not the people, it was God. We do not have anything close to that in our current President.
I do not have to spend much ink on Joab, most of the time He served and gave good counsel to David, but he also killed his rivals who were better men than him, and at one point turned against David.
Jehoshaphat the son of Ahilud was a recorder, and the role of a recorder was; the chancellor or vizier of the kingdom. He brought all weighty matters under the notice of the king, "such as complaints, petitions, and wishes of subjects or foreigners. He also drew up papers for the king's guidance and prepared drafts of the royal will for the scribes.
We also do not need to spend time on the priests, or David’s sons.
