Who is like God?

Psalm 113:1-9

Praise the Lord!  Praise, O servants of the Lord, praise the name of the Lord!   Blessed be the name of the Lord from this time forth and forevermore!  From the rising of the sun to its setting, the name of the Lord is to be praised!  The Lord is high above all nations, and his glory above the heavens!  Who is like the Lord our God, who is seated on high, who looks far down on the heavens and the earth?  He raises the poor from the dust and lifts the needy from the ash heap, to make them sit with princes, with the princes of his people.  He gives the barren woman a home, making her the joyous mother of children.  Praise the Lord!

This Psalm is titled “Who is like our God?” in my ESV of the Bible.  What a great question, because no one or thing comes even close, so why do people not look to Him?  We get a hint as to the why in the Gospel, according to John chapter 1:9-10, “The true light, which gives light to everyone, was coming into the world.  He was in the world, and the world was made through him, yet the world did not know him.”  Turn to John 3:19-20, and Jesus gives us this information; “And this is the judgment: the light has come into the world, and people loved the darkness rather than the light because their works were evil.  For everyone who does wicked things hates the light and does not come to the light, lest his works should be exposed.”

We now understand more clearly why the wicked and that is anyone in God's eyes that rejects His Son, but what about those who go by the name Christian?  Why do Christians departmentalize their time of praise to the confinement of Church services?  For it is clear that we are to do it at all times and that is where we are. Blessed be the name of the Lord from this time forth and forevermore!  From the rising of the sun to its setting, the name of the Lord is to be praised!”

I’m not sure of the why, could it be we are ignorant and lazy when it comes to exploring His name.  Most all of us fall short in giving our Lord the praise that He expects from His children, we have many excuses, but they are all centered on self and not on praising our Lord for raising us up and putting our feet on solid ground.  He has moved me from the ash heap and allowed me to have fellowship with the only Son of God, the Christ, Jesus, my redeemer, and Lord.  That’s what He did for me, I never take that lightly for I do not deserve His mercy, His forgiveness, or His love, nor do you.
