Riches do not last Forever

Proverbs 27:23-24

“Know well the condition of your flocks, and give attention to your herds, for riches do not last forever; and does a crown endure to all generations?”

How would the United States of America change if they followed the counsel of the Scripture?  How would you change if you to the best of your ability and with the help of God did the same?  If we look deep into the verses above and ponder on what King Solomon was sharing with his sons, we would come to understand, the following.  It is all about the people who God has allowed into your concentric circle, your family, relatives, friends, and neighbors, and those you work with.  As future kings, they had a big job ahead, and history tells us they did not listen to the counsel of their dad, nor the advisor he left to give them direction.  Yes, it is also about money and in their case livestock and crops but disasters happen, and often crops and livestock and even people can be destroyed.

As we look to the Scriptures and one would be wise to read Proverbs 27:25-28, they also go with verses 23-24.  Let us begin with 1 Timothy 6:17-19, “As for the rich in this present age, charge them not to be haughty, nor to set their hopes on the uncertainty of riches, but on God, who richly provides us with everything to enjoy. 18 They are to do good, to be rich in good works, to be generous and ready to share, thus storing up treasure for themselves as a good foundation for the future, so that they may take hold of that which is truly life.”  I sure hope you put thought into this verse and are wise in following its counsel.

Proverbs 11:28, “Whoever trusts in his riches will fall, but the righteous will flourish like a green leaf.”  We often fail to understand the word riches, Jesus asks this question “What does it profit a man who gains the whole world and loses his soul?”  I have a high school friend who I love very much, he was a business owner and an incredible musician, a great husband, and dad to his daughter and loves his grandchildren, and it seems overnight his mind is gone.  He and his family would be willing to give away money and stuff to have him back.  True riches are not found in money but in being able to sit quietly in a room all by one's self and know you are rich in your relationship with God, family, and friends.
