Blessed are those who consider the Poor

November 30, 2018

Proverbs 29:7-8

“A righteous man knows the rights of the poor; a wicked man does not understand such knowledge.”

The Bible has much to say about the poor, shall we explore a few of them, like Psalm 41:1-2.  “Blessed is the one who considers the poor! In the day of trouble, the LORD delivers him; the LORD protects him and keeps him alive; he is called blessed in the land; you do not give him up to the will of his enemies.”  What about Proverbs 29:7, ”A righteous man knows the rights of the poor; a wicked man does not understand such knowledge.”  One more that we should consider is Proverbs 19:17, “Whoever is generous to the poor lends to the LORD, and he will repay him for his deed.”   What is your take away from this, this writer believes the Lord is expecting us to use what He has blessed us with to be of help to the poor?  Yes, many people who claim to have compassion for the poor, but run scams to increase their wealth so investigate before giving.  It has been our experience that the Salvation Army and Samaritans Purse both meet and exceed our expectations when it comes to helping the under-resourced.

A wise person will pay attention to the warning of the Scriptures and not enter into judgment.  Look with me at Proverbs 22:7, “The rich rules over the poor, and the borrower is the slave of the lender.”  All one has to do is look at the governments of countries and you see this playing out, the rich are the rulers.  We have the example of people who had little in the way of money going to Washington D.C. and becoming very rich, why because they are willing to sell out to the highest bidder.  But they are the puppet in the hands of the super-rich, do you recall the words of Jesus in Matthew 16:26-27?   For what will it profit a man if he gains the whole world and forfeits his soul? Or what shall a man give in return for his soul?  For the Son of Man is going to come with his angels in the glory of his Father, and then he will repay each person according to what he has done.”  My prayer is that you value your eternal soul at a higher price than the temporary stuff that money can buy.
