Faith would not be needed - IF?

Romans 4:13-16

“For the promise to Abraham and his offspring that he would be heir of the world did not come through the law but through the righteousness of faith. For if it is the adherents of the law who are to be the heirs, faith is null and the promise is void. For the law brings wrath, but where there is no law there is no transgression.”

If one could obey all the laws faith would not be required and faith would not be needed, but it is very clear that all have sinned and fallen short of the glory of God, no one can keep the whole law, so if the promise came only to those who keep the whole law, none would have inherited the promise.  But it came only by faith, so the promise came by the grace of God, and so by faith.

But that last sentence jumped off the page, what would a world look like where mankind did not acknowledge the laws of God and of man?  Has a time like this been recorded?  Well yes, before the law was given to Moses, before the promise was made to Abraham, but after the creation and the fall of Adam and Eve, mankind began to increase in great numbers on the earth, verse 5 of Genesis 6, gives us this information: “The Lord saw how great man’s wickedness on the earth had become, and that every inclination of the thoughts of his heart was only evil all the time.”  Now be very careful about which channel you are listening to, Channel One sounds just like you and is going to say something like it is God’s fault for He had not given them the law to live by.  And Channel Two the Holy Spirit is a much softer voice reminding you of this Scripture, that is if you have hidden the word of God in your heart.  It may go something like this; Do you recall what I said through the apostle Paul in Romans 1:18-20, “For the wrath of God is revealed from heaven against all ungodliness and unrighteousness of men, who by their unrighteousness suppress the truth. For what can be known about God is plain to them, because God has shown it to them. For his invisible attributes, namely, his eternal power and divine nature, have been clearly perceived, ever since the creation of the world, in the things that have been made. So they are without excuse.

And do you recall the Tower of Babel where men had one language all mankind had a common speech.  And do you recall what the Tower of Babel was all about, maybe you recall Frank Sinatra, also known as “Old Blue
Eyes” sang the theme song of these people and all who refuse to bow down to a living God; the song is “I did it my way”.  If you need a refresher on the tower of Babel turn in your Bible to Genesis 11.

Now what about today, yes this present darkness where the Presdent of the United States has boldly broken the law he promised to keep, what about a Supreme Court that make laws to agree with the culture and has no respect for the life of a child or for marriage?  I must ask have you noticed a break down in our socity for the authority of the parents, the teacher, the Priest or Preacher, the lawinforcement officers?  If not, what world are you living in, are you so much into self that you care little about the evil that is coming from the highest levels of our government?  Do you recall God has spoken, we are without excuse!

From the Back Porch,

Bob Rice
