We have our roots in God's promises

Isaiah 66:7-14

I looked at these verses yesterday and once more this morning and I asked the Holy Spirit to open my eyes to what I needed to understand. This morning I read the thoughts of other men, men of wisdom and knowledge, and you also can do this.  I will not attempt to address verses 7-9, but would like to look with you at verses 10-14.

Look at verses 10-11,“Rejoice with Jerusalem, and be glad for her, all you who love her; rejoice with her in joy, all you who mourn over her; that you may nurse and be satisfied from her consoling breast; that you may drink deeply with delight from her glorious abundance.”   As a follower of Christ, we have our roots in the promises of God to Abraham and our foundation truths are in the Commandments given to Moses.  As we examine Isaiah and other Old Testament books, we see the promises of our LORD to Jerusalem and the chosen people’s Messiah.  Do you recall the promise made in Genesis 12:3, I will bless those who bless you, and him who dishonors you I will curse, and in you all the families of the earth shall be blessed.”

The Jewish people have been used by God to bless all the families of the earth in so many ways: a leader in health care, in technology, products of farming and drip irrigation, and how about the cell phone, and so many other things we use each day.  As a follower of Christ, each of us should pray for the Jewish people and support them against the many who hate them.

As we look at the words Isaiah is speaking, they were not only for that time in history, but to all people and all nations, God is very serious about His chosen people, today as He was in the time of Isaiah’s writing.  Verse 14 states; “You shall see, and your heart shall rejoice; your bones shall flourish like the grass; and the hand of the LORD shall be known to his servants, and he shall show his indignation against his enemies.  From heavens view, what is the meaning of the word indignation; righteous anger, why would anyone pick a fight with someone who has the power and ability to destroy them, and the answer is simple, they have been brain washed by the one Jesus calls the liar and thief in John 10:10.

Israel has a very special weapon and it is more powerful than any bomb that has ever been made, and God is holding it in check until the time is right.  The weapon I believe was used in what is called the six day war, but a time is coming when Israel’s prince will not be held back by God and the enemies of Israel will melt in fear of this holy one of God.  If you have spent time in the book of Daniel you know Israel’s Prince to be Michael the archangel.  In chapter 12 and verse 1, "Now at that time Michael, the great prince who stands guard over the sons of your people, will arise. And there will be a time of distress such as never occurred since there was a nation until that time; and at that time your people, everyone who is found written in the book, will be rescued.”
