Hearing the voice of God

Isaiah 54:9-10

Have you ever wanted to hear the voice of God?  I’m sure you have and so have I, but if for some reason you do not have any desire to hear God speak, stop reading now, for verses 9 and 10 is a continuance of God speaking to His people.  Verses 9 and 10, “This is like the days of Noah to me: as I swore that the waters of Noah should no more go over the earth, so I have sworn that I will not be angry with you, and will not rebuke you. For the mountains may depart and the hills be removed, but my steadfast love shall not depart from you, and my covenant of peace shall not be removed,” says the LORD, who has compassion on you.”

Before I go forward with such an encouraging word, I must share this truth; I of all men find it necessary to hear of God’s steadfast love.  Many of you who read the “Back Porch” may not understand its origin; it was an attempt to leave a record for my two grandsons, John Mark and Zachary David of what God is showing me about living life according to the Scriptures.  For some reason beyond my understanding God has, I believe, called me to write not only to my grandsons but also to His Church.  The only answer I’ve been able to come up with that makes any sense is 1 Corinthians 1:27, “But God chose what is foolish in the world to shame the wise; God chose what is weak in the world to shame the strong.”

When God tells us this is like the days of Noah, to me those days were evil much like today, but unlike today, once the door was closed and the waters came, it was a day without hope for all who had chosen not to get into the boat.  But God, knowing and loving mankind made a promise; “This is like the days of Noah to me: as I swore that the waters of Noah should no more go over the earth, so I have sworn that I will not be angry with you, and will not rebuke you.”

I have no understanding of your walk with our LORD, but this I know it has not been without bought lessons, it has not been without the need to forgive and to seek forgiveness.  Can God make it any clearer, all kinds of hell can come into your life, but God’s steadfast love shall not be removed.  Is that not what verse 10 is stating:  “ For the mountains may depart and the hills be removed, but my steadfast love shall not depart from you, and my covenant of peace shall not be removed,” says the LORD, who has compassion on you.”

Are you not glad you’re not getting what you deserve, what joy fills my soul as I read, but my steadfast love shall not depart from you, and my covenant of peace shall not be removed,” says the LORD, who has compassion on you.”  Most of us have put to memory John 3:16, For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son that whosoever believes in Him will not perish but have everlasting life.  You are greatly loved by God the Father, and He keeps His promises.

From the Back Porch,
Bob Rice
