It is new every morning

Isaiah 44:21-28

Often, a pastor or a parent has said, remember these things; it may be a chore needing done, or it could be an action required to not fall into temptation, like the developing of habits and character which will bring God’s blessing on your life.  Could Christians need reminding of God redeeming them?  Romans 12:2 warns us about how the world is trying to mold us into conforming to its standards, and we know but often forget the devious old serpent, the devil who whispers into our mind with a voice that mimics our voice, but the message is about what we deserve, or an attack on our person.  Dr. JK Minton reminded each of us from Lamentations 3:22-23, “The steadfast love of the Lord never ceases; his mercies, never come to an end; they are new every morning; great is your faithfulness.”  His message was centered on the mercies of our God, not on the judgment of sin.  For all of us have sinned and fallen short of the glory of God, and all who have called on, who have sought forgiveness from God the Father, are justified by His grace as a gift, through the redemption that is in the broken body and the blood of Jesus Christ, there is no redemption outside of the cross.

But how does one who lives in a no fault culture, a culture that has permeated, saturated, infiltrated the Church, the home, the work place, confront sin in themselves?  We need to return to Romans 12:2, after we have become aware we have been conned by the chief of cons, we go back to the renewal of our minds by testing, and we are told by testing our actions and our hearts that we can discern what is the will of God, what is good and acceptable and perfect.  This step brings a follower of Christ back to the “Truth Channel” where the Holy Spirit can speak into your mind and heart to remind each of us of this truth: When you were dead in your transgression ... He made you alive together with Him, having forgiven us all our transgressions, having canceled out the certificate of debt consisting of decrees against us, which was hostile to us; and He has taken it out of the way, having nailed it to the cross.” (Colossians 2:13-14, NASB)  You and I are no longer under the control of sin unless we choose to be.

Could it be you and I need Isaiah to remind us, as he is doing to Judea and Israel, in these
verses of what God has done?  Beginning in verse 21-22, “Remember these things, O Jacob,
and Israel, for you are my servant; I formed you; you are my servant; O Israel, you will not be
forgotten by me. I have blotted out your transgressions like a cloud and your sins like mist;
return to me, for I have redeemed you.”  (Isaiah 44:21-22 ESV)  Now please keep reading for
it is a recall of God’s mercies; “The steadfast love of the Lord never ceases; his mercies,
never come to an end; they are new every morning; great is your faithfulness.”
