Isaiah
14:24-27
Yesterday, we looked into the question, will God change His mind, and today more
questions, but first let’s explore what God has sworn about Assyria. Assyria is a world
power, it has no equal, and God tells Isaiah the following; “The LORD of hosts has sworn:
“As I have planned, so shall it be, and as I have purposed, so shall it stand, that I will break
the Assyrian in my land, and on my mountains trample him underfoot; and his yoke shall
depart from them, and his burden from their shoulder.” (Isaiah 14:24-25 ESV)
It would be like God telling Costa Rica, who has no army, that He is going to use them to
defeat the United States of America; would you pay any attention to a man who came with
this message? I think not, but that was Isaiah’s message to Judea. It was Assyria that
reduced the size of the northern kingdom of Israel in 730 B.C. under Tiglath-pileser III, and
then in 722, under Shalmaneser, deported its citizens. (HCSB page1151) But any kingdom,
no matter how strong, will not last one day past the purpose God has set for them. If you
had the privilege of being born in the USA, a world super power, a nation who in the past
has shed the blood of it young people to protect the rights and freedoms of other nations,
you might want to awaken to what God is going to ask of all men, of all nations.
This is a great question, and how you answer it will tell where you are putting your hope!
“This is the purpose that is purposed concerning the whole earth, and this is the hand that
is stretched out over all the nations. For the LORD of hosts has purposed, and who will
annul it? His hand is stretched out, and who will turn it back? (Isaiah 14:26-27 ESV)
The two questions are not from me, but from the Creator, what you really believe about God
is going to be exposed, as you reply to God’s questions. Many in Israel and Judea gave a
wrong answer, and I worry that many in the Church have also placed hope in little gods, like
military power, wealth, but not in the out stretched hand of God.
