How close is the Day of the Lord?

Isaiah 13:7-16

The prophet Isaiah tells about a day, it has not yet come to pass, it’s what we time critters call the future, but there lies the problem, how close is the day of the Lord?  As we look into that day, we find it will be a day of destruction from the Almighty and mankind will have no solutions, in fact, Isaiah saw their hands as feeble and every human heart will melt.  Picking up the account of what was seen in verse 8, They will be dismayed: pangs and agony will seize them; they will be in anguish like a woman in labor. They will look aghast at one another; their faces will be aflame.”  On this day the smartest, the most gifted, those in leadership will be horrified, and all of the rest will be horror-struck; it is not going to be a good day from a psychological or physical point of view.

The following is more of what God showed Isaiah: Behold, the day of the Lord comes,
cruel, with wrath and fierce anger, to make the land desolation and to destroy its sinners from it.  For the stars of the heavens and their constellations will not give their light; the sun will be dark at its rising, and the moon will not shed its light.
I will punish the world for its evil, and the wicked for their iniquity; I will put an end to the pomp of the arrogant, and lay low the pompous pride of the ruthless. I will make people more rare than fine gold, and mankind than the gold of Ophir.
Therefore I will make the heavens tremble, and the earth will be shaken out of its place, at the wrath of the Lord of hosts in the day of his fierce anger.  And like a hunted gazelle,
or like sheep with none to gather them, each will turn to his own people, and each will flee to his own land.  Whoever is found will be thrust through, and whoever is caught will fall by the sword.  Their infants will be dashed in pieces before their eyes; their houses will be plundered and their wives ravished.”

Isaiah is seeing God as a warrior, and He is commanding nature to do as only the Creator can do.  It will not be the effects of global warming, but of God’s holiness saying He has had His fill of unbelief and sin.  Many a cultured Christian has little or maybe no understanding of the “Day of the Lord,” it has not been preached, it is not in keeping with the in vogue culture of live and let live, no blame, no winners and please do not tell me there are losers.  But God has spoken about this day often, look at Matthew 24:29, Luke 21:25-29, or look at Revelation 8:12.

You may have read when the earthquakes hit near a water front island, the people go with great haste to high ground, we refer to that as a tsunami, but a tsunami is a lame example of what the “Day of the Lord” is going to be.  It is hard to understand a world without hope, a people with no leadership running around like gazelles under the attack of lions, and many will not make it back to their home country.  For the roads will be lined with danger from within and without including robbers and maybe even enemy armies, and many a parent will see the death of their children.

But today is the day of Salvation, today you can enter into a relationship with the Living God, His name is Jesus and He loves you and does not want to be your destroyer, for He came to earth and has paid in full your debt of sin.  It has always been a choice, begin today reading the gospel of John and tell Jesus you want the truth, and it is amazing what He is going to show you.  If you are a follower of Christ, are you keeping an eye on the Eastern sky?
