The Bronze Basin

The Lord said to Moses,  “You shall also make a basin of bronze, with its stand of bronze, for washing. You shall put it between the tent of meeting and the altar, and you shall put water in it,  with which Aaron and his sons shall wash their hands and their feet.  When they go into the tent of meeting, or when they come near the altar to minister, to burn a food offering to the Lord, they shall wash with water, so that they may not die.  They shall wash their hands and their feet, so that they may not die. It shall be a statute forever to them, even to him and to his offspring throughout their generations.”

What is this all about? Is the Lord teaching them hygiene? No, it is about God wanting His people to understand the importance of purity.   Purity to serve as God's minister to the people of Israel.   It was more than symbolic for them to have clean hands and feet; they were the leaders of the people before God.

What about those of us who have entered into a personal relationship with God the Father by believing in the finished work of the cross?  Hebrews 1:3 gives a clear picture of who has given us access to our Father in heaven.  “He is the radiance of the glory of God and the exact imprint of his nature, and he upholds the universe by the word of his power. After making purification for sins, he sat down at the right hand of the Majesty on high.

The blood of Jesus Christ is the only thing that covers our sins; Jesus is our purification before the Father.  But it is a purification of our spirits, not our flesh.
