Moses Pleading with God

  

Exodus 32:9-14

And the Lord said to Moses, “I have seen this people, and behold, it is a stiff-necked people.  Now therefore let me alone, that my wrath may burn hot against them and I may consume them, in order that I may make a great nation of you.”

In Deuteronomy 9:26-29, we are given this account: “And I prayed to the Lord, ‘O Lord God, do not destroy your people and your heritage, whom you have redeemed through your greatness, whom you have brought out of Egypt with a mighty hand. ²⁷ Remember your servants, Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob. Do not regard the stubbornness of this people, or their wickedness or their sin, ²⁸ lest the land from which you brought us say, “Because the Lord was not able to bring them into the land that he promised them, and because he hated them, he has brought them out to put them to death in the wilderness.” ²⁹ For they are your people and your heritage, whom you brought out by your great power and by your outstretched arm.”

We are living in a day where meekness is thought of as weakness, but it is real strength, under control.  Characterized by humility, gentleness, and patience, especially in the face of provocation.

The "meek" are not weak, but rather possess strength under control, trusting God to handle injustice and submitting to God's will instead of asserting their own power aggressively. (Taken from the Internet)

But Moses implored the Lord his God and said, “O Lord, why does your wrath burn hot against your people, whom you have brought out of the land of Egypt with great power and with a mighty hand? 

 Why should the Egyptians say, ‘With evil intent did he bring them out, to kill them in the mountains and to consume them from the face of the earth’? Turn from your burning anger and relent from this disaster against your people.  Remember Abraham, Isaac, and Israel, your servants, to whom you swore by your own self, and said to them, ‘I will multiply your offspring as the stars of heaven, and all this land that I have promised I will give to your offspring, and they shall inherit it forever.’” And the Lord relented from the disaster that he had spoken of bringing on his people.”

One must understand that this was a test for Moses, in that God does not change His mind. Before there was a Moses, God, who is all-knowing, knew that His chosen were a rebellious people, and He also knew that Moses would plead for the Lord to recall His promises to Abraham, Isaac, and Israel.

One of the fruits of the Spirit is found in Galatians 5:22-23: self-control. Or you might say strength under control.  This is a need in my life, and I would welcome your prayers for me in this area.  My flesh does not enjoy being meek, but when I walk in the Spirit, I have victory over my flesh.  How are you doing in this area of obedience?

Exodus 32:1-8

The Golden Calf

When the people saw that Moses was so long in coming down from the mountain, they gathered around Aaron and said, “Come, make us gods who will go before us. As for this fellow Moses, who brought us up out of Egypt, we don’t know what has happened to him.”

Aaron answered them, “Take off the gold earrings that your wives, your sons, and your daughters are wearing, and bring them to me.”  So, all the people took off their earrings and brought them to Aaron.  He took what they handed him and made it into an idol cast in the shape of a calf, fashioning it with a tool. Then they said, “These are your gods, Israel, who brought you up out of Egypt.”

When Aaron saw this, he built an altar in front of the calf and announced, “Tomorrow there will be a festival to the Lord.”  So, the next day the people rose early and sacrificed burnt offerings and presented fellowship offerings. Afterward, they sat down to eat and drink and got up to indulge in revelry.

Then the Lord said to Moses, “Go down, because your people, whom you brought up out of Egypt, have become corrupt.  They have been quick to turn away from what I commanded them and have made themselves an idol cast in the shape of a calf. They have bowed down to it and sacrificed to it and have said, ‘These are your gods, Israel, who brought you up out of Egypt.’

 

As you read this account, I’m willing to bet the farm, I do not own, that you were thinking, no one would be that dumb.  Let me ask you a few questions: have you ever allowed a pastor or priest who had a very close walk with the Lord, and die or leave, and another man came in their place who seemed not to have that same leadership, and you quit going to that Church building?  Many of you just quit and have found someone else to follow.  Are you any different from them?  They believed in Moses God till he was no longer in their presence.  Was it God they were following, or the God that Moses followed?  Following a man will get you to leave God, who loves you.

 

I must keep asking questions of you. Have you gone looking for a god who you can see, one that you have made yourself?  The Scripture is very clear that anything we put ahead of God has taken his place, and that is a very dangerous place to put yourself or your family.

 

What happens to people who chase after the world’s gods? They worship before them and go out with only one thing in mind: to do as they please. In that the gods of this world do not have the Holy Spirit to guide you into all Truth, you buy into whatever the world is selling. 

 

What is the solution to your problem? First, examine who you are following; it might even be yourself.  In 2 Corinthians 13:5, “Examine yourselves, to see whether you are in the faith. Test yourselves. Or do you not realize this about yourselves, that Jesus Christ is in you?—unless indeed you fail to meet the test!”  Let me share with you a part of the test: when I am rude, unloving, and unkind to my wife or anyone, the Spirit of God that lives in me not only brings that to my attention but requires me to ask for forgiveness.  I first must acknowledge I’ve sinned, and that is agreeing with God and asking His forgiveness and the person my actions have hurt.

 

If you can do as you please, then the Spirit of God is not in you; you have failed the test.  In my life, I’ve met some People who go by the title of Christian, who attend bible study, and are active at the building, but are some of the most mean-spirited people I’ve ever met. They act as if their Citizenship is earth, and it may be, but many of them will break fellowship with people if they do not agree with them.  Jesus does not tell us to be that kind of person.  They have made a golden calf, and it is them.

Fear

 In a Time of the Unknown

 

“And the only thing to fear is fear itself.”

 

“Fear Not”

 

Shall we begin with the word “fear?” What is it, and where does it come from?” I went to the dictionary, and it states, “Fear is an unpleasant emotion caused by the belief that someone or something is dangerous, likely to cause pain or a threat. Emotion can drive a person to harm themselves and others. It can bring anxiety and apprehension to a person, a city, the nation, and even the world. “

 

In 1933, Franklin D. Roosevelt gave his inaugural Speech and unemployment was very high, people had lost their homes and were sleeping in old cars or the streets.  He gave this speech in part; “So, first of all, let me assert my firm belief that the only thing we have to fear is...fear itself — nameless, unreasoning, unjustified terror which paralyzes needed efforts to convert retreat into advance. In every dark hour of our national life, a leadership of frankness and of vigor has met with that understanding and support of the people themselves which is essential to victory and I am convinced that you will again give that support to leadership in these critical days.”

 

As a politician, he blamed everyone but himself, it was his second term in office.  I wonder if we do not need at this time of insanity to listen to those famous words?

 

God our Father and Creator spoke these words through His prophet Isaiah 41:10, “Do not fear, for I am with you; do not be afraid, for I am your God. I will strengthen you; I will help you; I will hold on to you with My righteous right hand.”  As a follower of Christ, Jesus often reminds us that He is very close to us and that fear is the opposite of faith.  Do you recall Proverbs 3:5-6, “Trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding; in all your ways submit to him, and he will make your paths straight.”  

 

Five hundred years ago, Michel de Montaigne said: “My life has been filled with terrible misfortune; most of which never happened.”  Do you understand that 85% of what people worry about never happens?  Neither the coronavirus nor anything else is going to end your life one day before the date God set for you or me.  I did not share this, but the information I’ve read is that it is more like 97%, but people do stupid things that cause what they fear to be the cause of death.  So, wash your hands and stay home if you have serious health problems, and pray for our President and those over the health care system.  And stop listening to the news media; that is a sure way to lower your stress.

It is now February 5, 2025. The media landscape hasn't changed much; my advice remains the same: don't spend much time listening to them.   But fear has not gone away; it is a good way to sell a product, and that means anything, including wealth and health.  

 

Jesus tells us the only one we should fear is God.  You will find that in Matthew 10:28, “And do not fear those who kill the body but cannot kill the soul. Rather fear him who can destroy both soul and body in hell.”

The Sabbath

“And the Lord said to Moses,  “You are to speak to the people of Israel and say, ‘Above all you shall keep my Sabbaths, for this is a sign between me and you throughout your generations, that you may know that I, the Lord, sanctify you. You shall keep the Sabbath, because it is holy for you. Everyone who profanes it shall be put to death. Whoever does any work on it, that soul shall be cut off from among his people.  Six days shall work be done, but the seventh day is a Sabbath of solemn rest, holy to the Lord. Whoever does any work on the Sabbath day shall be put to death. Therefore, the people of Israel shall keep the Sabbath, observing the Sabbath throughout their generations, as a covenant forever.  It is a sign forever between me and the people of Israel that in six days the Lord made heaven and earth, and on the seventh day he rested and was refreshed.’”

And he gave to Moses, when he had finished speaking with him on Mount Sinai, the two tablets of the testimony, tablets of stone, written with the finger of God.”

 

Shall we begin with the word “Sanctify?” You will find words like consecrate, purity, and dedicate. All of those have the same meaning: a person set apart for the service of worship. God, our Creator, desires our worship and gets angry when we worship anyone or anything but Him.

 

It was only a few years ago that I was convicted that my testimony was being damaged by my actions.  Not by attending worship services, but by coming home and mowing the yard.  My many neighbors knew that Jan and I were followers of Christ, but after Church service, we were just like them; Sunday was just a day off.  So, I no longer do that; Sunday is a day to remember and give thanks for all the blessings of our God and Father.

 

Now this is my conviction, and yet if your testimony is of value to you, you might want to pray about it, for a day of solemn rest is holy to the Lord.  Could you use a day of rest and refreshment?

Oholiab and Bezalel

The Lord said to Moses,  “See, I have called by name Bezalel the son of Uri, son of Hur, of the tribe of Judah,  and I have filled him with the Spirit of God, with ability and intelligence, with knowledge and all craftsmanship,  to devise artistic designs, to work in gold, silver, and bronze,  in cutting stones for setting, and in carving wood, to work in every craft.  And behold, I have appointed with him Oholiab, the son of Ahisamach, of the tribe of Dan. And I have given to all able men ability, that they may make all that I have commanded you: the tent of meeting, and the ark of the testimony, and the mercy seat that is on it, and all the furnishings of the tent, the table and its utensils, and the pure lampstand with all its utensils, and the altar of incense,  and the altar of burnt offering with all its utensils, and the basin and its stand,  and the finely worked garments, the holy garments for Aaron the priest and the garments of his sons, for their service as priests,  and the anointing oil and the fragrant incense for the Holy Place. According to all that I have commanded you, they shall do.”

 

My prayer and hope is, that you understand God has called you and me for a purpose and has given us His Holy Spirit, with the ability, intelligence, and knowledge to do what He has called us for.

 

Many of us who call ourselves Christians begin to allow pride and the praise of others to make us believe we did this and that it was not a gift from God. Clearly, Bezalel was picked by God and given these gifts to do all of these things, but God also appointed Oholiab to work with Bezalel, in that two are better than one.

 

No matter what someone tells you, you are not a never was in God’s sight; you are very special with a calling.  Each of us has a different calling, so use those gifts and bless others with them.

The Anointing Oil and Incense

The Lord said to Moses, “Take the finest spices: of liquid myrrh 500 shekels, and of sweet-smelling cinnamon half as much, that is, 250, and 250 of aromatic cane, and 500 of cassia, according to the shekel of the sanctuary, and a hin of olive oil.  And you shall make of these a sacred anointing oil blended as by the perfumer; it shall be a holy anointing oil.  With it, you shall anoint the tent of meeting and the ark of the testimony, and the table and all its utensils,​ and the lampstand and its utensils, and the altar of incense, and the altar of burnt offering with all its utensils, and the basin and its stand.  You shall consecrate them, that they may be most holy. Whatever touches them will become holy.  You shall anoint Aaron and his sons, and consecrate them, that they may serve me as priests.  And you shall say to the people of Israel, ‘This shall be my holy anointing oil throughout your generations.  It shall not be poured on the body of an ordinary person, and you shall make no other like it in composition. It is holy, and it shall be holy to you.  Whoever compounds any like it or whoever puts any of it on an outsider shall be cut off from his people.’”

The Lord said to Moses, “Take sweet spices, stacte, and onycha, and galbanum, sweet spices with pure frankincense (of each shall there be an equal part), and make an incense blended as by the perfumer, seasoned with salt, pure and holy.  You shall beat some of it very small and put part of it before the testimony in the tent of meeting, where I shall meet with you. It shall be most holy for you.  And the incense that you shall make according to its composition, you shall not make for yourselves. It shall be for you holy to the Lord.  Whoever makes any like it to use as perfume shall be cut off from his people.”

 

In Exodus, the anointing oil was a sacred blend of spices and olive oil that was used to consecrate objects and people associated with the Tabernacle. The oil was a physical representation of God's presence and blessing.  

In the Old Testament, anointing with oil represented the coming of the Holy Spirit upon a person. For example, in 1 Samuel 16:13, the prophet Samuel anointed David as king of Israel with oil, and the Spirit of the Lord came upon David.1 Samuel 16:13: “Then Samuel took the horn of oil and anointed him in the midst of his brothers. And the Spirit of the Lord rushed upon David from that day forward. And Samuel rose up and went to Ramah.”  

 

So how does the Holy Spirit anoint a person today?  “In Christianity, the Holy Spirit "anoints" a person today by residing within them, empowering them with spiritual gifts and abilities to discern truth, understand scripture, and live a life according to God's will, essentially providing an inner presence that guides and strengthens their faith; this "anointing" is considered a permanent gift given to all believers upon accepting Jesus Christ, and is not necessarily dependent on outward practices like applying oil, but rather a spiritual transformation through the Holy Spirit's work within them.” 

 

When Jesus left Planet Earth to return to His Father and ours, His followers were sad, but then the Holy Spirit came on them with spiritual gifts and all kinds of abilities, and one that I treasure is discerning truth.  When Jesus began His earthly ministry, He shared the following: in Luke 4:18, "The Spirit of the Lord is upon me, because he has anointed me to proclaim good news to the poor. He has sent me to proclaim liberty to the captives and recovering of sight to the blind, to set at liberty those who are oppressed, to proclaim the year of the Lord's favor.”  The Spirit that was on Jesus would come to guide direct, and lead us to the Father.  Jesus talks with His disciples in John 16:7-11, “Nevertheless, I tell you the truth: it is to your advantage that I go away, for if I do not go away, the Helper will not come to you. But if I go, I will send him to you. ​ And when he comes, he will convict the world concerning sin and righteousness and judgment:  concerning sin, because they do not believe in me; concerning righteousness, because I go to the Father, and you will see me no longer; concerning judgment, because the ruler of this world is judged.”

 

We have Paul talking to the Church at Corinth, in 2 Corinthians 1:21-22, ^“And it is God who establishes us with you in Christ, and has anointed us, and who has also put his seal on us and given us his Spirit in our hearts as a guarantee.”

The Bronze Basin

 The Lord said to Moses,  “You shall also make a basin of bronze, with its stand of bronze, for washing. You shall put it between the tent of meeting and the altar, and you shall put water in it,  with which Aaron and his sons shall wash their hands and their feet.  When they go into the tent of meeting, or when they come near the altar to minister, to burn a food offering to the Lord, they shall wash with water, so that they may not die.  They shall wash their hands and their feet, so that they may not die. It shall be a statute forever to them, even to him and to his offspring throughout their generations.”

 

What is this all about? Is the Lord teaching them hygiene? No, it is about God wanting His people to understand the importance of purity.   Purity to serve as God's minister to the people of Israel.   It was more than symbolic for them to have clean hands and feet; they were the leaders of the people before God.

 

What about those of us who have entered into a personal relationship with God the Father by believing in the finished work of the cross?  Hebrews 1:3 gives a clear picture of who has given us access to our Father in heaven.  “He is the radiance of the glory of God and the exact imprint of his nature, and he upholds the universe by the word of his power. After making purification for sins, he sat down at the right hand of the Majesty on high,”  The blood of Jesus Christ is the only thing that covers our sins; Jesus is our purification before the Father.  

But it is a purification of our spirits, not our flesh.

The Census Tax

The Lord said to Moses,  “When you take the census of the people of Israel, then each shall give a ransom for his life to the Lord when you number them, that there be no plague among them when you number them.  Each one who is numbered in the census shall give this: half a shekel according to the shekel of the sanctuary (the shekel is twenty gerahs), half a shekel as an offering to the Lord.  Everyone who is numbered in the census, from twenty years old and upward, shall give the Lord's offering.  The rich shall not give more, and the poor shall not give less, than the half shekel, when you give the Lord's offering to make atonement for your lives.  You shall take the atonement money from the people of Israel and shall give it for the service of the tent of meeting, that it may bring the people of Israel to remembrance before the Lord, so as to make atonement for your lives.”

 

What is a Census, and why did God require it of the people of Israel?   A census is used for many reasons today: to have a count of the people in a nation, to gather information, a population count, but was that what God was requiring them to do? 

 

You may have noticed the requirement was for 20 years and up, for rich and poor, the same amount.  I believe that it served two purposes: first and most important, as a reminder of who they were and who God was.  It reminded them of slavery and freedom, of a God who was the giver of life to them, and death to the army of Egypt.  So first and foremost, a reminder that God is the only God, and they are the created.

Second, to provide for the priest and those who minister before the Lord.

What should you and I regurgitate from this? Could it just be “It's not about us”; we are the created, and God is the giver of all that we need.  But our flesh desires so much more; the desires of the flesh often draw us: the lust of the eyes and the pride of life.  It is common to all people, not just people who are blind to the ways of God.

I am the Lord their God

“Thus, you shall do to Aaron and to his sons, according to all that I have commanded you. Through seven days shall you ordain them,  and every day you shall offer a bull as a sin offering for atonement. Also, you shall purify the altar, when you make atonement for it, and shall anoint it to consecrate it.  Seven days you shall make atonement for the altar and consecrate it, and the altar shall be most holy. Whatever touches the altar shall become holy.

“Now this is what you shall offer on the altar: two lambs a year old day by day regularly.  One lamb you shall offer in the morning, and the other lamb you shall offer at twilight.  And with the first lamb, a tenth measure of fine flour mingled with a fourth of a hin of beaten oil, and a fourth of a hin of wine for a drink offering.  The other lamb you shall offer at twilight, and shall offer with it a grain offering and its drink offering, as in the morning, for a pleasing aroma, a food offering to the Lord.  It shall be a regular burnt offering throughout your generations at the entrance of the tent of meeting before the Lord, where I will meet with you, to speak to you there.  There I will meet with the people of Israel, and it shall be sanctified by my glory.  I will consecrate the tent of meeting and the altar. Aaron also and his sons I will consecrate to serve me as priests.  I will dwell among the people of Israel and will be their God.  And they shall know that I am the Lord their God, who brought them out of the land of Egypt that I might dwell among them. I am the Lord their God.

As a follower of Christ, how are we to consecrate ourselves to God?  I often look to “Got Questions” and I believe this part is key to setting ourselves apart from the world to our Lord for His use.  

“Being consecrated is a critical component in our relationship to God and to those in the world. Paul tells us, “Therefore, I urge you, brothers, in view of God’s mercy, to offer your bodies as living sacrifices, holy and pleasing to God—this is your spiritual act of worship. Do not conform any longer to the pattern of this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind. Then you will be able to test and approve what God’s will is—his good, pleasing and perfect will” (Romans 12:1-2).

In other words, as true believers in Christ, the act of consecration involves our lives being a living sacrifice to Him; we are totally separated from the defilement of the world. Each day, we are to live out our lives as a “holy” and “royal” priesthood to the glory of God, for we are now God’s people (1 Peter 2:9-10).”  “But you are a chosen race, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, a people for his own possession, that you may proclaim the excellencies of him who called you out of darkness into his marvelous light.”

But how can we live in the world and not be part of it?  Jesus prayed for you and me in John 17:14, “I have given them your word, and the world has hated them because they are not of the world, just as I am not of the world.”  Why does the world hate followers of Christ?  Because their God is the devil; you will find that in 1 John 5:19, “We know that we are from God, and the whole world lies in the power of the evil one.”   

Once more I look at “Got Questions”; “We must also understand that being in the world, but not of it, is necessary if we are to be a light to those who are in spiritual darkness. We are to live in such a way that those outside the faith see our good deeds and our manner and know that there is something “different” about us. Christians who make every effort to live, think, and act like those who do not know Christ do Him a great disservice. Even the heathen know that “by their fruits, you shall know them,” and as Christians, we should exhibit the fruit of the Spirit within us.

Being “in” the world also means we can enjoy the things of the world, such as the beautiful creation God has given us, but we are not to immerse ourselves in what the world values, nor are we to chase after worldly pleasures. Pleasure is no longer our calling in life, as it once was, but rather the worship of God.”

Who is he – What he does?

 

We cannot allow ourselves to be ignorant of who and what he is about.

 

John 8:42-44: Jesus had this to say to the religious people: Jesus said to them, “If God were your Father, you would love me, for I came from God and I am here. I came not of my own accord, but he sent me.  Why do you not understand what I say? It is because you cannot bear to hear my word. ​ You are of your father the devil, and your will is to do your father's desires. He was a murderer from the beginning, and does not stand in the truth, because there is no truth in him. When he lies, he speaks out of his own character, for he is a liar and the father of lies. I added verses 42-43 for more clarity.

Satan has no problem with you having a zeal for God if one stays ignorant of what the righteousness of God is.  Romans 10: 1-4, “Brothers, my heart's desire, and prayer, to God for them is that they may be saved.  For I bear them witness that they have a zeal for God, but not according to knowledge.  For, being ignorant of the righteousness of God, and seeking to establish their own, they did not submit to God's righteousness.  For Christ is the end of the law for righteousness to everyone who believes.

Questions

How can these truths help you in your warfare with the devil and his demons?

How does Satan fill your heart and mind?  Are you ready for his next attack?

1 Peter 5:​ 6-11, gives us a warning of your adversary. “Humble yourselves, therefore, under the mighty hand of God so that at the proper time he may exalt you, casting all your anxieties on him, because he cares for you.  Be sober-minded; be watchful. Your adversary the devil prowls around like a roaring lion, seeking someone to devour.  Resist him, firm in your faith, knowing that the same kinds of suffering are being experienced by your brotherhood throughout the world.  And after you have suffered a little while, the God of all grace, who has called you to his eternal glory in Christ, will himself restore, confirm, strengthen, and establish you.  To him be the dominion forever and ever. Amen.”

A Follower of Christ Instructions in the Verses Above.

·      Humble

·      Cast all anxiety on Christ

·      Be of sober spirit and alert

·      Resist the devil

·      Stand firm in Faith

How to apply the above actions steps

·      One must first understand their identity in Christ and pray for guidance.

·      Stand firm in your faith, and seek God’s will

·      Know that you are greatly loved by God.  He cares for you; He will strengthen you, and God is the one who has established you.

  

The Enemy

Questions that will be answered

·      What is the devil like?

Do not forget these words! 

Let’s look at the book of Job to learn Satan’s strategy and limits of his power.

Do not forget that Satan was thrown out of heaven and where is he reins on the Earth, he knows what is going on.

Job 1:1-22

Verse 6, “Now there was a day when the sons of God came to present themselves before the Lord, and Satan​ also came among them.”

Has access to God’s throne

Verse 7, “The Lord said to Satan, “From where have you come?” Satan answered the Lord and said, “From going to and fro on the earth, and from walking up and down on it.”

He on the Earth

Verses 8-9, ^“And the Lord said to Satan, “Have you considered my servant Job, that there is none like him on the earth, a blameless and upright man, who fears God and turns away from evil?”  Then Satan answered the Lord and said, “Does Job fear God for no reason?”

God bring up Job name.  And Job has not been tested.

Verses 10-11, “Have you not put a hedge around him and his house and all that he has, on every side? You have blessed the work of his hands, and his possessions have increased in the land.  But stretch out your hand and touch all that he has, and he will curse you to your face.” 

Verse 12, ^“And the Lord said to Satan, “Behold, all that he has is in your hand. Only against him do not stretch out your hand.” So, Satan went out from the presence of the Lord.”

Satan didn’t challenge God’s statement- his powers is limited, and God set the limits.

It is of upmost importance to recall the accuser Satan’s goals is to kill, steal and destroy.  

Job’s response 

Verses 1: 20-22, “Then Job arose and tore his robe and shaved his head and fell on the ground and worshiped. ²¹ And he said, “Naked I came from my mother's womb, and naked shall I return. The Lord gave, and the Lord has taken away; blessed be the name of the Lord.”  In all this Job did not sin or charge God with wrong.”

Job, knows who has given him all that he has.  “As a follower of Christ, you should also affirm this truth.” (From Bob)

Job 2:1-10

Job 2:3, “And the Lord said to Satan, “Have you considered my servant Job, that there is none like him on the earth, a blameless and upright man, who fears God and turns away from evil? He still holds fast his integrity, although you incited me against him to destroy him without reason.”  Once more we have God bring up Job to Satan.

Job 2:6, “And the Lord said to Satan, “Behold, he is in your hand; only spare his life.”  God allows Satan limited powers to afflict Job.

Job 2:7, “So Satan went out from the presence of the Lord and struck Job with loathsome sores from the sole of his foot to the crown of his head.”  Satan afflicted Job.

Job 2:9, “Then his wife said to him, “Do you still hold fast your integrity? Curse God and die.”  Wife loses it.

Job 2:10, “But he said to her, “You speak as one of the foolish women would speak. Shall we receive good from God, and shall we not receive evil?” In all this Job did not sin with his lips.”

What insights from the Book of Job?

Satan was allowed access to God’s throne.  Righteous and Zealous are his targets.  Satan roams about the earth, and knew there was a hedge around all that Job had been given. And it was God who protector Job, and it is God who protected you and me.

God is totally supremely, and his overall things, in heaven and the Earth.  God is sovereign and has always had power over Satan.

Daniel 4:34-35

At the end of the days I, Nebuchadnezzar, lifted my eyes to heaven, and my reason returned to me, and I blessed the Most High, and praised and honored him who lives forever, for his dominion is an everlasting dominion, and his kingdom endures from generation to generation; all the inhabitants of the earth are accounted as nothing, and he does according to his will among the host of heaven and among the inhabitants of the earth; and none can stay his hand or say to him, “What have you done?”

God rules over: all people, powers of heaven, people on earth; He has eternal dominion, His kingdom endures from generation to generation.

Isaiah 45:6-7

“So that from the rising of the sun to the place of its setting
people may know there is none besides me.  I am the Lord, and there is no other.  I form the light and create darkness, I bring prosperity and create disaster; I, the Lord, do all these things.

Deuteronomy 32:39

“‘See now that I, even I, am he, and there is no god beside me; I kill and I make alive; I wound and I heal; and there is none that can deliver out of my hand.”

Job 42:5-6

I had heard of you by the hearing of the ear, but now my eye sees you; therefore, I despise myself, and repent in dust and ashes.”

From Bob, Have, you come to understand that it is Christ in you that is your only hope.

Because God is Sovereign, it limits Satan’s powers

1 Corinthians 10:13: “No temptation has overtaken you except what is common to mankind. And God is faithful; he will not let you be tempted beyond what you can bear. But when you are tempted, he will also provide a way out so that you can endure it.”

2 Timothy 1:7: “for God gave us a spirit not of fear but of power and love and self-control.”

Luke 22:31-32:“Simon, Simon, behold, Satan demanded to have you, that he might sift you like wheat,  but I have prayed for you that your faith may not fail. And when you have turned again, strengthen your brothers.”

As a Follower of Christ, we are on the ascension side of the Cross we have Christ in us His power, His hope, His strength.

A Great Question

If Satan were to stand before the Lord right now, would your character be such that God would boost of you to him?

Prayer for one another 

A Tool of the Enemy is ignorance, which leads to Disobedience

1 John3:8: “Whoever makes a practice of sinning is of the devil, for the devil has been sinning from the beginning. The reason the Son of God appeared was to destroy the works of the devil.”

Ephesians 2:2: “In which you used to live when you followed the ways of this world and of the ruler of the kingdom of the air, the spirit who is now at work in those who are disobedient.”

Ephesians 6:12:” For our struggle is not against flesh and blood, but against the rulers, against the authorities, against the powers of this dark world and against the spiritual forces of evil in the heavenly realms.”

John 12:31: “Now is the time for judgment on this world; now the prince of this world will be driven out.”

Revelation 12:7-9: “Then there was a war in heaven. Michael^[a] and his angels fought against the dragon. The dragon and its angels fought back, but they were not strong enough. The dragon and its angels lost their place in heaven.  It was thrown down out of heaven. (This giant dragon is that old snake, the one called the devil or Satan, who leads the whole world into the wrong way.) The dragon and its angels were thrown to the earth.”

2 Corinthians 11:14-15: “That does not surprise us, because even Satan changes himself to look like an angel of light.  So, it does not surprise us if Satan’s servants make themselves look like servants who work for what is right. But in the end those people will get the punishment they deserve.”

2 Corinthians 4: 4, “In their case the god of this world has blinded the minds of the unbelievers, to keep them from seeing the light of the gospel of the glory of Christ, who is the image of God.”

Matthew 13:19, “When anyone hears the word of the kingdom and does not understand it, the evil one comes and snatches away what has been sown in his heart. This is what was sown along the path.”

1 Timothy 4:1-2, “Now the Spirit expressly says that in later times some will depart from the faith by devoting themselves to deceitful spirits and teachings of demons, through the insincerity of liars whose consciences are seared,”

Matthew 16: 23, “But he turned and said to Peter, “Get behind me, Satan! You are a hindrance to me. For you are not setting your mind on the things of God, but on the things of man.”

! Thessalonians 3:5, “For this reason, when I could bear it no longer, I sent to learn about your faith, for fear that somehow the tempter had tempted you and our labor would be in vain.”

2 Thessalonians 2:9-10, “The coming of the lawless one is by the activity of Satan with all power and false signs and wonders, and with all wicked deception for those who are perishing, because they refused to love the truth and so be saved.”

 

Satan sows’ bad seeds or Weeds

Matthew 13:24-30, “He put another parable before them, saying, “The kingdom of heaven may be compared to a man who sowed good seed in his field, but while his men were sleeping, his enemy came and sowed weeds among the wheat and went away.  So, when the plants came up and bore grain, then the weeds appeared also.  And the servants of the master of the house came and said to him, ‘Master, did you not so good seed in your field? How then does it have weeds?’  He said to them, ‘An enemy has done this.’ So, the servants said to him, ‘Then do you want us to go and gather them?’  But he said, ‘No, lest in gathering the weeds you root up the wheat along with them.  Let both grow together until the harvest, and at harvest time I will tell the reapers, “Gather the weeds first and bind them in bundles to be burned, but gather the wheat into my barn.”’

Matthew 13:37-39, “He answered, “The one who sows the good seed is the Son of Man.  The field is the world, and the good seed is the sons of the kingdom. The weeds are the sons of the evil one, and the enemy who sowed them is the devil. The harvest is the end of the age, and the reapers are angels.”

Spiritually & Physically: Healed those under Satan's powers

Luke 13:16, “And ought not this woman, a daughter of Abraham whom Satan bound for eighteen years, be loosed from this bond on the Sabbath day?”

 Acts 10:38, “how God anointed Jesus of Nazareth with the Holy Spirit and with power. He went about doing good and healing all who were oppressed by the devil, for God was with him.”

Revelation 12:12, “Therefore, rejoice, O heavens and you who dwell in them! But woe to you, O earth and sea, for the devil has come down to you in great wrath, because he knows that his time is short!”

Counsel to the Elders of the Church

1 Timothy 3:6-7, “He must not be a recent convert, or he may become puffed up with conceit and fall into the condemnation of the devil.  Moreover, he must be well thought of by outsiders, so that he may not fall into disgrace, into a snare of the devil.”

Satan has this in common with humans; he also was created.  And he knows the plan God has for him and his demons; it is a place of eternal punishment.  It was not designed for people, but many have rejected God's gift, His Son, His only Son, Jesus Christ, and by a foolish choice they will end up there.  Also, from Bob.  Only where you see my name added it is all Jan’s work over many months.
