Why I Believe the Scriptures
An educated person asks this uneducated person “Why do you believe the Scriptures, were you there?” As I the uneducated gave thought to that question, I was shocked that someone with smarts would ask such a question. I nor they were there for 99:9 Percent of what has taken place in history, but it has been recorded, and often we can find evidence. I have seen proof of much in the Bible, and historians tell us that there is more proof of Jesus living on planet Earth, than any other person from that timeline. But if all of that was not true, God has given me the faith to believe, and I have experienced him in my life. Yes, someone I love in my family asks how do you know that has happened. I was not expecting that question, and I said because it was recorded in the Scriptures. That did not mean anything to them. I’ve asked the God whose Holy Spirit breathed into the men who recorded what they were told to write in the Scripture what I need to do.
Bob, tell them what I did for you, explain how I changed your life completely. Tell them it requires faith, in a God who loved you and them so much, before He Created all that is or will ever be, In that He is all-knowing and has been from what we call time, to the beginning of time to when it will be no more. He asks His Son His only Son to take on flesh be born of a woman, and live on planet Earth for 33 years to show all how to live life. But in that, God is all-knowing, He knew that His Son would be rejected, just like my family member was rejecting the Scripture. The Question I was asked was, where, you there, then you do not know it to be true.
But I do for the God who breathed life into Adam and also breathed life into me at the age of 27. You heard the term Born Again, I was, and like Daniel, God spoke to me as I put the key into the door of my hotel room, and said; Bob this is the last time I’m going to deal with you. I like Daniel was frightened and opened a hotel Bible, it opened to Romans chapter 10 and my eyes were directed to verses 9 & 10, “because, if you confess with your mouth that Jesus is Lord and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved. For with the heart, one believes and is justified, and with the mouth, one confesses and is saved.”
That night I knew I was not talking to an empty room, and I believed that God gave me the faith to ask Him to forgive me, I told Him I had nothing He needed but that He had everything I needed. And He forgave me and Jesus came into my life and I entered into His. It was a week before Jan asked the question what has happened to you, you are different, and I was but it has taken many years to grasp how loved I am by God, and have learned and am learning to show that love to others. His Word is a lamp to my feet, it is not a spotlight, it has guided me to put others first. That is not the old Bob, He needed to be first and he sought the approval of man and not God. I’m still a mess, but I know whom I believe and He can keep His promises, every one of them. Before that night in Victoria at the Hotel, I was religious, a Baptist, but it was an empty life. I heard it put this way Do & Done; Religion is what I can do to earn God's exception. (Note: It is empty and has never worked.) Done is the finished work of Jesus on the Cross. It is all about relationships. The Scripture states, that without Faith it is impossible to please God. It also says the fool says in his heart there is no God.
You ask how I know it to be true, because God can keep His Written Word, and it stays the course of evil men for 2000 years that Have tried to destroy it. As I read it, I see many of the thing’s prophecies that are taking place today. I also see prophesies like Isaiah talking about what would happen to Jesus, 700 years before it happens Like Isaiah 53. We have so much in the Old Testament that prophesies like these; Isaiah 7:14 “Therefore the Lord himself will give you a sign: The virgin will conceive and give birth to a son, and will call him Immanuel.” Also 700 years before Christ was born. What about Micah 5:2, “But you, Bethlehem Ephrathah, though you are small among the clans of Judah, out of you will come for me one who will be ruler over Israel, whose origins are from of old, from ancient times.” About 800 years before Christ was born.
I also recalled this Prophesy; Psalm 22:18: “They part my garments among them, and cast lots upon my vesture.” Mark 15:24: And when they had crucified him, they parted his garments, casting lots upon them, what every man should take.
You may think I’m a fool, but I am God’s fool, and not that old serpent the devil that told Eve, did God say that? You ask the question, and I know that I’ve made a good case for my belief. John 1010, says; “The thief comes only to steal and kill and destroy. I came that they may have life and have it abundantly.”
A great man said; “In faith, there is enough light for those who want to believe and enough shadows to blind those who don't.” Blaise Pascal
