Zechariah 8:14-23
For thus says the Lord of hosts: “As I purposed to bring disaster to you when your fathers provoked me to wrath, and I did not relent, says the Lord of hosts, so again have I purposed in these days to bring good to Jerusalem and to the house of Judah; fear not. These are the things that you shall do: Speak the truth to one another; render in your gates judgments that are true and make for peace; do not devise evil in your hearts against one another, and love no false oath, for all these things I hate, declares the Lord.”
God promised Judah in His wrath that they would be taken into captivity and now the God who keeps His promises and has promised to bring good to Jerusalem. But these were God’s instructions; “These are the things that you shall do: Speak the truth to one another; render in your gates judgments that are true and make for peace; do not devise evil in your hearts against one another, and love no false oath, for all these things I hate, declares the Lord.”
As one who is a follower of Christ, I try not to refer to myself as a Christian, for I’m not sure what anyone's definition of Christian is today. But if you are a follower of Christ, that means you are part of God’s family, and a member of His Church, the Holy Catholic Church, for those who do not understand that is the universal Church, not a denomination. If so, how are you doing with these requirements of our Father?
Areas that I’ve struggled with, and I also know some of you do also and as followers of Christ, they bring shame on His name. That is passing on email, some or funny but many are unfounded attacks on people you fear, or they are of a different view than yours and you attack their person in emails. Make sure it the truth first and foremost, and then that it does not bring shame on His name.
From the Back Porch,
Bob Rice
