Psalm 55:1-7
When one comes to
an understanding, they need help; they have many roads, and yet which is going
to take me to where I need to be? Not a new problem, but it seems so when
it comes to life on planet earth. Many decisions, so many choices and
often it is one that has a lasting effect. We find King David in such a
mess, fear and terror are at his door; he is not sure of what path to take, and
his death and his enemies have become his focus. Let's explore Psalm
55:1-7, maybe that is where you find yourself, and like David you want wings so
you can fly away.
Give ear to my prayer, O God, and hide not yourself from my plea
for mercy!
Attend to me, and answer me; I am restless in my complaint, and I moan,
Attend to me, and answer me; I am restless in my complaint, and I moan,
because of the noise of the enemy, because of the oppression of the
wicked.
For they drop trouble upon me, and in anger, they bear a grudge against me. My heart is in anguish within me; the terrors of death have fallen upon me.
Fear and trembling come upon me, and horror overwhelms me. And I say, “Oh, that I had wings like a dove! I would fly away and be at rest; yes, I would wander far away; I would lodge in the wilderness; Selah

When God is silent,
and fear overcomes you, and there is more than one path to choose. The best
one is to rest, be still and seek the Lord, recall His word, like Isaiah
41:10, “Do not fear, for I am with you; do not
be afraid, for I am your God. I will strengthen you; I will help you; I will
hold on to you with My righteous right hand.”
But often we allow
fear to be driven by our emotions back to where we were before; as David is
doing when he wants to fly away to the wilderness. It is a choice and
often in those times when it seems all is lost, God is silent and you choose
not to be still and seek the face of God or to recall His promises, you let
your emotions take over.
