Proverbs 30: 5-9
Words mean things and I'm absolutely sure of this, I believe Proverbs 30:5-9 are words one should build their lives on. “Every word of God is flawless; he is a shield to those who take refuge in him. Do not add to his words, or he will rebuke you and prove you a liar. “Two things I ask of you, Lord; do not refuse me before I die: Keep falsehood and lies far from me; give me neither poverty nor riches, but give me only my daily bread. Otherwise, I may have too much and disown you and say, ‘Who is the Lord?’ Or I may become poor and steal, and so dishonor the name of my God.”
Do you fear God? I believe many do not or they would be cautious about how they handle the Scriptures. Many have added for the sake of greed and the tradition of men with no fear of God. In God’s Revelation to John we find this warning. “I warn everyone who hears the words of the prophecy of this book: if anyone adds to them, God will add to him the plagues described in this book, and if anyone takes away from the words of the book of this prophecy, God will take away his share in the tree of life and in the holy city, which are described in this book.” (Revelation 22:18-19)
Do you recall Jesus asking the question; what would a person give in exchange for their soul? I’m fearful of such leaders, for they not only are mocking God but also are leading others to not share in life eternal.
Now shall we go from leaders who teach error to you and me, and the prayer of Agur? Are you willing to make Agur’s prayer your prayer to the Father? This has been my prayer for many years, it is not a prayer that my flesh desires, for my flesh would like to be rich and I understand with that I might become foolish. This is Agur’s prayer; “Two things I ask of you, Lord; do not refuse me before I die: Keep falsehood and lies far from me; give me neither poverty nor riches, but give me only my daily bread. Otherwise, I may have too much and disown you and say, ‘Who is the Lord?’ Or I may become poor and steal, and so dishonor the name of my God.”
I have had moments of greed, and let me share that is not from the Spirit but the flesh, and Galatians 5:16 gives us this insight; “But I say, walk by the Spirit, and you will not gratify the desires of the flesh.” So by walking in the Spirit, we will do the following; “But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, self-control; against such things, there is no law.” (Galatian 5:22-23) The flesh desires to have no authority over it, it longs to be in charge, Galatian 5:19-21 gives a list of its desires.
