Divorce

Matthew 5:31-32

“It was also said, ‘Whoever divorces his wife, let him give her a certificate of divorce.’ But I say to you that everyone who divorces his wife, except on the ground of sexual immorality, makes her commit adultery, and whoever marries a divorced woman commits adultery.”

Jesus said, “Whoever divorces his wife” not his civil union partner, marriage was one of the first actions God took with man.  We all have read in Genesis 2:22, where God took the rib of Adam and formed the woman Eve, and brought her to Adam.  And verse 24 gives the Covenants between the man and the woman and God.  Therefore a man shall leave his father and his mother and hold fast to his wife, and they shall become one flesh.”

If you are contemplating marriage, let me be the first to tell you that it is not a 50/50 deal, it is a covenant, it will not always be easy, it will require a lot of work, but as a man who has been blessed to be married to Jan for 47 years, it gets better and better.  With that said, in my late twenty’s I almost walked away because it is hard to become one flesh.  Now back then I had no clue of the deception channel, and I believed the lies of that voice I heard in my head that sounded just like my voice.  I was a new Christian and God was blessing in so many ways and yet that voice told me that I needed a better partner who was out going and would enable my life and my work with God.  And the dude had a person in mine, but God rescued me because my wife of great worth would not stop calling on the Father to save our marriage.  But we watched many who just listened to Channel One and had no understanding or trust that God had spoken to them in his word.

So lets take a moment to hear from God’s word: “Let marriage be held in honor among all, and let the marriage bed be undefiled, for God will judge the sexually immoral and adulterous. Keep your life free from love of money, and be content with what you have, for he has said, “I will never leave you nor forsake you.” (Hebrews 13:4)  First thing God requires from both the husband and the wife is to stay in your own bed with the mate you married, and second, do not let the love of money, and that equals stuff put pressure on your marriage.

Channel Two is the Spirit of God speaking into your life, you will never turn to this channel while seeking your own will.  But this is what Channel Two is telling all of us who have entered into a Covenant with our wife or the woman with her husband.  “He is the source of your life in Christ Jesus, whom God made our wisdom and our righteousness and sanctification and redemption.”  Jesus tells the truth, all that you have comes from him, and He so wants to bless your marriage.  Place your hope on him for your family, and remember how much He cares for you and your mate.  Ask the author of Life to show you how to love your mate, and when all seems not to work and the marriage counselor has no more answers, run to Jesus and let Him do what is impossible for you to do, and He will for He cares for you and your marriage.
